This page was made using the Project Life Baby Edition for Him.
Top row, left side:
The
first photo, including the white border, is straight from Instagram. The second
photo was texted to me by Carter to show what he was doing in California while
we were having a blizzard in Tennessee.
The
arrows were drawn with the Custom Shape Tool. I copied the Drop Shadow Layer Style from a mask in the template and pasted it on all three arrows at the
same time by holding down the Ctrl key while clicking on all three of the arrow
layers.
The
smiley face is from the web. I Googled “smiley faces png” and got about 4,680,000 results in .25 seconds. (Pause to remember the olden days when we didn’t
even have smiley faces, let alone the web or computers.) I copied/pasted one of them in my Project Life folder called “Repeated Use,” because it
will get repeated use on my PL pages. I chose the png format, because the image
background is transparent. In other words, the face is not sitting on a white
square that would be visible on my page.
The
green grid card used as the base is a Baby
for Him 4x6 bifold card. So it wouldn’t get lost on the page’s gray
background, I added a stroke to the edge of the mask under the card. I chose a
green from the week card on the left page of this two-page spread. Physical scrapper don't have the problem with cards getting lost, because each card butts up [Southern expression?] to the next card. There is no background showing.
Fonts: Arial, Helvetica
Rounded, my handwriting
Top row, right side:
(I love this photo.) The
“collage” above is not a collage. It’s a photo received via text messaging and a
screenshot from another texting session. I painted the whole turquoise
mask in this spot on white. That way when I left a bit of
space between the two “photos,” the white beneath them showed up and divided
the photos.
Fonts: Arial (for “Me” and “Graham”),
Monotype Sorts for the hands with the
pointing finger. Monotype Sorts has characters, or dingbats, instead of
letters. The asterisk key makes the hand. The font also includes scissors (my favorite! not),
snowflakes, flowers, stars, check marks,
. . .. I added a small drop shadow to the hands so they’d stick out. The
orange for the hands and the red for the text is from the week card.
Middle row, first
spot:
This
is a Baby for Him 3x4 journaling
card.
Middle row, second
spot:
This
is a screenshot of the weather from my iPhone on top of a photograph I took
with my iPhone.
Font: Arial
Middle row, third
spot:
This
is a Baby for Him 3x4 journaling
card. When I find a new font I like, I tend to use it a lot. That’s good for my
PL pages. A repeated font gives a tad of continuity to the pages. My new favorite
font (for today) is Lavanderia. It
makes a pretty title, but it didn’t show up well on top of the green dots on
the journaling card. I used the Dodge Tool (50%) on the card right under “Nursing
school…” A few strokes of the brush faded the dots where needed.
Middle row, fourth
spot:
I made an arrow made with the Custom Shape Tool and put it right on top of the photo. I
usually put strips on top of photos for my writing. Why didn’t I think of
arrows sooner? I love arrows!
Font: Arial
Bottom row, left
side:
Here
a cropped photo and an Instagram photo were placed on top of a Baby for Him 4x6 bifold card. This
card also blended with the background too much, so it got a stroke with a
color chosen for the week card.
Bottom row, right
side:
This
six-photo collage was made with a template from Designs by Lili. On top of the
middle of the collage I made a white rectangle, added a black stroke, and
rasterized the shape so the white rectangle and the black stroke were one. Then I could add a white stroke, too. The color of the text
was “picked” from . . . yes! The week card!
Font: Helvetica Rounded
Cathy Zielske has a video tutorial on her blog this week about
how to add a caption box to a predesigned journal card.

Kudos t6o Conrad for sending such great photos! Love the idea of adding a stroke to the edge of journal cards to make them pop and painting mask white to reveal a border! Putting those tips to use as we speak. Thanks for the link to CZ and her tutorial. I love her she is so gracious and funny. Like you.
ReplyDeleteConrad is a keeper! He's very good about sending me photos. I love CK, too. She's real!
